The New Zealand Agricultural College Act of 1926 founded the sixth college of the University of New Zealand on Turitea, across from Palmerston North City. The college was renamed Massey Agricultural College in 1927 in memoriam of former New Zealand Prime Minister William Fergusson Massey.
